Karina Oliva Alvarado holds a Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies from the University of California at Berkeley. A U.C. President’s Postdoctoral Fellow in the English Department at the University of California Los Angeles (2007-2009), she has taught on U.S. Central American and Chicana/o and Latino literature at Scripps College, CSULA and UCLA. She is interested in intertextual Latina/o narratives, representations of Latinidad, and topics of exile. Her forthcoming articles include, “The Boo of Viramontes’ Cafe: Retelling Ghost Stories, Central American Representations of Social Death” found in Studies in Twentieth and Twenty-First Century Literature, and “An Interdisciplinary Reading of Chicana/o and (U.S.) Central American Internarrations” in Latino Studies Journal, vol 11-3.
