Peyman Golshani

Professor-in-Residence, Departments of Neurology and Bioengineering, John Mazziotta Endowed Chair in Neurology, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA

Peyman Golshani is the John Mazziotta Endowed Chair in Neurology and a Professor-in-Residence in the Departments of Neurology and Bioengineering at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He also serves as a neurologist at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center. His research focuses on discovering the causes and finding treatments for autism and epilepsy, two conditions which often co-occur in the same individuals. His laboratory uses cutting edge imaging and electrophysiological techniques to understand how the connections between specific neuronal types is altered in models of these disorders and how this impacts on how large groups of neurons become coordinate their activity patterns. The ultimate goal is discover rationally based treatment strategies that will improve the lives of children and adults with these disorders.

 

Dr. Golshani obtained his MD/PhD at UC Irvine where he completed his PhD with the late neuroscience pioneer Dr. Edward G. Jones. He completed his residency in neurology at UCLA and became a member of the faculty in 2006. He is a member of the Integrative Center for Learning and Memory and the Intellectual and Developmental Disability Research Center at UCLA. He is also on the board of Friends of the Israel-USA Binational Science Foundation. As a member of the UCLA Y&S Nazarian Center for Israel Studies Community Advisory Board, Dr. Golshani focuses on promoting activities highlighting US/Israel scientific collaboration.
