We welcome PKU/UCLA JRI's guest speaker, Professor Lei He from UCLA to give us a talk on Models and Chips for Managing Energy Storage Used in Electric Vehicles and Smart Grid.

Professor Jason Cong, co-director of JRI hosted the event. Professor Ru Huang and Professor Xu Cheng from the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science listened to the lecture and had discussion with Professor He afterwards.

Abstract

The first part of the talk will be an overview of Professor He’s research involving modeling and simulation, configurable or mixed‐signal circuits and systems, and cyber and physical systems for green applications and health care.

Secondly, Professor He will discuss energy storage, a key technology to electric vehicles and the smart grid. He will introduce the technical challenges of managing energy storage, and show how to develop software/hardware co‐designed models and chips for battery management, where an important task is to model the state of charge, solved by a linear system analysis and accomplished by a PKU student when he was an exchange undergraduate student at UCLA.
