The UCLA Terasaki Center for Japanese Studies invites applications for a 1-year postdoctoral position. The fellow will be expected to be in residence at UCLA, teach a one-quarter undergraduate course, present one public lecture, and to participate actively in Center colloquia and other public programs during the fellowship year.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. from an accredited university in hand by June 30, 2024, but have earned it no earlier than January 1, 2022 to be considered for the 2025-26 fellowship year. The application materials must be received by the Center office by May 8, 2025.
The selection committee will evaluate applications on the basis of:
♦ The significance of the proposed research and its relevance to the aims of the Center
♦ The quality of previous research and experience and the ability of the applicant to benefit from the Center and UCLA
♦ The contribution an applicant is likely to make to the Center and UCLA in their teaching, research and collegial interactions.
Applicants must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement of up to 1,500 words describing the proposed research project during the fellowship year, and an article-length writing sample in English. Three letters of reference should be sent under separate cover, directly to the Center.
This is a paid position with health coverage and research stipend provided. Office space, and access to a computer, the UC library system, and other facilities available to members of the UCLA community will also be provided.
