In recent years, South Korea’s homegrown pop music industry, known as K-Pop, has become an undeniable cultural phenomenon, spreading beyond Asia into a worldwide craze. Groups like BTS and BLACKPINK have cultivated immense and devoted fanbases, shattering YouTube music video records and performing at major Western music events like Coachella and the Grammy Awards. The reach of K-Pop extends even beyond music, reflecting a new era of South Korean soft power influence.

In collaboration with  Asia Society Korea, Asia Society Southern California is going to host a webinar on  BTS and Beyond   by inviting  three distinguished panelists: Jae Chong, a producer, artist and APAC Music Industry Executive, Tamar Herman, Senior Culture Reporter at South China Morning Post, and Youngdae Kim, music critic and author. This initiative also serves to deepen understanding of Asian cultures—a core part of Asia Society’s mission since its creation.

They are going to discuss and share their thoughts on the record-shattering success of global K-pop superstars, the expanding influence of South Korean soft power, and beyond.
