Kassem Nabulsi joined the UCLA Y&S Nazarian Center for Israel Studies in 2012 as a Visiting Lecturer. While Nabulsi teaches courses at UCLA, he has also served as a Lecturer in the Department of Political Science at California State University Northridge since 2002. The courses Nabulsi offers at UCLA include a lecture-format course, “The Arab Minority of the Jewish State,” and a seminar entitled “Israel’s Conflict of Identities and Its Society’s Identity Conflicts.” Like his current research, both of these courses examine and analyze the role of identity in the relationship between the State of Israel and its Arab minority as well as the complex interaction between different segments of Israel’s society. Nabulsi has also taught lecture-format courses and undergraduate seminars at a number of other academic institutions in Southern California, including USC, Pepperdine and California State University, Long Beach. His courses have covered a wide variety of topics, from American foreign policy, to Middle East politics, international relations and Israeli politics. His current research and courses on identity are influenced by his background. Nabulsi is an Israeli by birth, an American by naturalization, and a Palestinian by descent. A Muslim, he attended Catholic High School and a Jewish nursing school and prior to his work in academia, he worked in an Orthodox Jewish hospital in Jerusalem. Nabulsi received his BA from California State University, Northridge, and his MA and Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. All of his degrees are in political science.
