Traces and Memory of Jorge Prelorán (Huellas y memoria de Jorge Prelorán) (2010)

Directed by Fermín Alvarez Rivera

Fermín Alvarez Rivera’s moving documentary etches a finely-detailed portrait of fellow documentarian Jorge Prelorán, a cinematic icon in his native Argentina. The film is an intelligent and sensitive documentary that turns the camera on Prelorán, telling the story of his prolific career, his personal life and the ways in which he gave Argentina a new cinematic identity. An alumnus and faculty member of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, Prelorán (1933-2009), inflected his ethnographic practice with a unique aesthetic and ethical stamp and always presented his subjects in a non-exoticized, dignified manner.
