Alex Rivera’s visionary Sleep Dealer looks at the near future from south of the border, combining science fiction and provocative social commentary. Forced to leave his small village, Memo Cruz heads to Tijuana, where migrant labor has become virtual. Fitted with nodes that connect their central nervous system to a supercomputer, laborers plug in and operate equipment on the other side of the border. Sleep Dealer, written by Rivera and David Riker, won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award and the Alfred P. Sloan Prize for best film dealing with science or technology at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Alex Rivera, led by CSRC Director Chon A. Noriega
