“soaring … vibrant … music fueled by its own jubilation” – The New York Times

Reminiscent of the fervent, soul-bearing spirit of American gospel music, Qawwali, the ecstatic devotional music of the Sufis, uses Sufi poetic texts, strong, rapturous voices and hand-clapping rhythms to express the elation of divine love. This hypnotic music became hugely popular around the world through the tours and recordings of the late Pakistani star Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Revered as two of India’s finest Qawwali musicians, brothers Mehr and Sher Ali strive to create a direct channel to divine union through the purity of their singing and the warm resonance of the tabla, a pair of small, different-sized hand drums synonymous with the music of India. Additional Qawwali musicians will join them in a joyous celebration of the spirit.
