Akira Kurosawa & Toshiro Mifune Retrospective

Landmark's Nuart Theatre
11272 Santa Monica Boulevard
(at the 405 freeway)
West Los Angeles, CA

Kurosawa & Mifune, a major retrospective of eleven restored Akira Kurosawa classics starring Toshiro Mifune, will be showing at Landmark's Nuart Theare starting on November 29. Five of these films have been re-translated and re-subtitled by Linda Hoaglund, making them both richer and more accurate than ever.

One of the grand masters of cinema, Akira Kurosawa's films popularized Japanese cinema in the West and influenced a slew of great filmmakers from all over the world.  George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, John Woo, and John Sturges all owe much to Kurosawa s ingenuity, virtuosity, and imagination. Along with Toshiro Mifune, the actor considered by many to be the greatest leading man in the history of Japanese cinema, Kurosawa forever shaped the history of the moving image.

On Sunday, 12/1, Stuart Galbraith IV, author of The Emperor and the Wolf, the first comprehensive English-language biography of Akira Kurosawa, will appear in person at the Nuart Theatre to present the 4:10pm show of Stray Dog.
